FOR USE OF APPLICANTS WHO HAVE NOT STATE OF GEORGIA Meriwether County Personally appear Eli H. Blount of said County, State of Georgia, who, being duly sworn, says on oath that he is a bona fide citizen and resident of Georgia, and has been continuously since the 4th day of April, 1833 ; that he enlisted in the military service of the Confederate States during the war between the States, and served as a private in Company D, of 8th Regiment of Georgia Volunteers, Anderson’s Brigade; that whilst engaged in such military service, at the battle of Darby Town Road in the State of Virginia , on the 7th day of October , 1864 , he was disabled as follows: Gunshot wound. Ball entering right leg about midway between knee and foot (unreadable word – may be tearing) way through leg, cutting muscles and tendons, thence making it’s way to the left leg and entering left ankle, cutting leaders and breaking the bones of the left ankle. For the first six years after being wounded the left leg and ankle caused considerable pain and suffering. Particles of bone were constantly coming out. Since that time, the suffering has been continuous but not so severe as to prevent some use of same. About two years since the right leg became troublesome on account of said wound. The varicose veins which formed in calf of right leg, became numb and painful to such an extent that I can not work on any farm, which is my sole occupation. Said wound renders my right leg substantially (unreadable word) and practically useless. I have never made application before for the reason that by great effort I have been able to make use of both of my legs and thought I could live without a pension but for the last two years I have been in about as bad a fix as a one legged man and gun, getting worse as I grow older, all on account of said wound. Despondent desires to participate in the benefits of the Act approved October 24th, 1887, and the Acts amendatory thereof, and makes application for the allowance to which he is entitled for the year thereunder, ending October 26th, 1893. Sworn to and subscribed before me this the 15th day of May 1893. __ELI H. BLOUNT __(signature) __A. J. Hinton__ (signature) Ordinary
