Langston, Levi C.------- private May 15, 1861. Killed at Petersburg, Va. August 7, 1864. (Levi C. Langston had several brothers and sisters, including 2 older brothers [Alexander and Reuben] also in the War. Levi was the elder brother of my great-grandfather, Leonidas Langston.   The family lived in Greene County, GA.  By logic it might seem that Levi should have been in Company I since that was a Greene County unit.  However, the family story goes that when Alexander, Reuben and Levi went to join the Dawson Greys (Company C, 3rd Ga Reg) on April 24, 1861, Levi was not allowed due to his youth.

When enlistments were being taken for the 8th, Levi could not join the Greene County company, Company I, because everyone knew his age.  Therefore, he went over to Oglethorpe County, lied about his age and enlisted in Company K, the Oglethorpe Rifles.

Manassas battlefield records show that the 3 brothers were engaged at Second Manassas.
Alexander, according to family records, was wounded in the head on the second day of Gettysburg and subsequently died in December. Reuben was killed at Spotsylvania. Levi almost made it, but was killed at Petersburg.

Leonidas, the fourth son in the line and my great-grandfather, was only 13 at the outbreak of the Civil War, and later immigrated to Louisiana. - Contributed by Billy Langston, relative of Levi Langston.)

K to FS&B on 1 Nov 1862. He was granted a 30 day furlough 30 Sep 1864, the day after the battle at Ft.
