(Richard Watters was wounded in the right knee in the afternoon at the Battle of Sharpsburg, Md. and was evacuated to Shepherdstorn, WV where he died of his wounds on Sept. 24, 2862. He was buried in the Confederate section of Elmwood Cemetery in Shepherdstown, WV. [His memorial headstone was brought back to Floyd County, Ga. by Danny Watters to the ancestral home of Joseph Watters called "Hermitage."] Richard Watters had 9 brothers, 8 of whom were in the Confederate army.
