Comments: Was looking for info on Oglethorpe Light Infantry and ended up on your
page. Very interesting. My father and myself are Civil War buffs and have been
collecting relics since 1965. My father found a OLI belt buckle several years
ago at Harrisons Landing, the Union armies position after Malvern Hill. The
buckle was hit hard by an unknown object most likly causing death to its wearer.
A lot of souvenirs picked up by Union soldiers have been found here. I did
notice 1 Private killed at Malvern Hill, a posibility but far from conclusive.
Ill check out your site more thorouly when I have more time. Gus Prokopis

in Georgia. I was visiting your site to view any GA. Confederate Flags that were
posted, due in part to the cries of some people to change the Georgia State Flag
because it opresses them. My curiosity lies in what did the Georgia State Flag
look like during, and since the Civil War.

we suppose!!!You know how that goes, that and 25cts, would't buy a cup of
coffee! And settled in N.E. Ga., mainly White county. All i want to know is ;did
they fight for the CSA,hide under the porch , get "Studed ", on White county,
corn whiskey, and the units they were in!!! 2ist Ga. Reg. made up of mostly
N.Ga., Irishmen, fought their fellow countrymen at Fredricksburg, Marys Heights.
behind the stone wall on the high ground, killing their fellow Irish, (Yankees),
of Meagers, "IRISH BRIGADE" , any input would help! Look for me in the O'Kelley,
genelogy forum. Thanks in advance, JOHNNY REB!!!!!!

to hear it and I allways remember the men who gave their lives to defend the
sovereignty of the states where true freedom lay,but is now dead, thanks to the
tyrranical, socialist government that we now have. I think you have a great
web-site and maybe a short paragraph stating why the men of the south fought so
gallantly to preserve the sov- erign, legal nation,The Confederate States of
America, was to actually save the Const.as it was written. Thanks

Comments: What a great websight!! You are to be highly commended for your
efforts. I got chills when I came across your site. A few years ago, my great
grandmother passed away and in her Bible was a letter from her grandfather to
her grandmother. He was a Lt. Colonel in the 59th of Ga. I got a copy and
researched everywhere I could go. His name is Bolivar Hopkins Gee from the
Mitchell-Baker County area. He lived through all 4 years of the war, surrending
at Appomatax with Lee. Your site has given me more hope in learning more
detailed accounts of his regiment in the same battles the 8th participated in. I
learned he was promoted at Gettysburg when Col. Brown was wounded and he took
command of the 59th. Any information you could include on the brigade(the 59th
as well) on your site would be highly appreciated. I have tracked his journey
through the war but still have questions. Thank you very much for your hard
work. God Bless and keep up the great work.

UDC...and I just started in April, 1998. So far, I have found 1
great-great-great grandfather, 7 great-great grand- fathers, and 1 great
grandfather plus 6 great-great-great uncles. 10 have come from Georgia (my
daddy's family) and 5 from Mississippi (my mother's family). My mom (the family
genealogist) and I have figured there are about 35 to 40 more to confirm.
Web-sites like yours help alot. THANKS!!!

Comments: I am the great grandson of one Benjamin Franklin Smith who served his
home and family as a blacksmith and wagon driver in Co. A 8th GA BN - this may
not be the same unit you portray. Grandaddy Ben enlisted at the old age of 49
years in April '61 and was captured at Kennesaw according to the records I have
found in the Georgia archives. By the war's end, he had been wounded and
hospitalized in Mississippi. He had 3 sons, one who he named Jefferson Davis
Smith-my grandfather. My dad is Jefferson Davis Smith Jr.- my brother the third
in the line. Ben F. Smith lived in the Cassville area and his records are still
available in the now Bartow (formerly Cass) county courthouse. When he died, he
left a farm, implements and a "black mule" to his wife. If anyone is interested,
please e- mail me. I am semi retired reenactor( 7th GA, Co.C) of the old Georga
Division. Went to 125th Gettysburg, and many others. Still speak to school and
civic groups, etc.

brother, Levi Blount. They were members of 'Echols Guards' and sons of Freeman
W. Blount of Merriwether County, Georgia. Eli Blount was also mentioned in the
Culpepper Diary letter to the wounded soldier. It said "Eli Blount had killed a
Yankee with this wounded soldier's gun and wounded others". I have been looking
for Eli Blount's grave site for 2 years. Is there anyone out there who can help
me find it? I tend to believe he does not have a marker. Doesn't D.A.R. provide
markers for Civil War Veterans? Would they help me find the grave site or do I
have to find it myself and then notify them? Any lead or help will be most

Comments: This page is a fantastic peice of historical research. I am a
reenactor in the 8th New Jersey Vol. Inf. I would just like to inform you a bit
about us and why I am interested in this page. The 8th New Jersey was in George
S. Burling's brigade (3rd Brigade, 2nd Division, 3rd Corps) at Gettysburg. With
out the knowledge and authority of Col. Burling, his brigade was scattered to
fill various gaps in the union lines. The 8th New Jersey had been placed along
the stone wall in the wheatfield, when Gen. De Trobriand ordered the 8th to
shift to the right. The 17th Maine now took the stone wall and the 8th was
positioned on the right flank of the wheatfield with the 115th PA between the
8th New Jersey and the 17 ME. At Remembrance Day at Gettysburg, PA (November
20-22, 1998) My unit is going to discuss the actions of July 2nd at our monument
and also the actions of the 8th Georgia and 9th Georgia against the union lines.
It was probably the rifle fire of the 8th Georgia that coined a phrase in the
8th New Jersey "Shot in the back while facing the enemy". This page will help us
understand the views and movements of the the 8th Georgia at Gettysburg. I would
like to view our "tour" of the action on that day as a tribute to both the 8th
Georgia and the 8th New Jersey. Again, I think this page is fantastic and is a
valuable tool. Thank you. ~Brian.

for some seven or eight months and finally ran across some information on Gen.
Anderson that led me to you and this page. Since I actually had a relation in
the 8th William Sampson Booton who is listed on my familys geneology tree. He is
the second Confederate member that I have found out about. I also had a Great,
great Uncle George Washington Arrowood who was conscripted into the 3rd
Tennessee Heavy Artilery did three months was captured saw U.S. Grant did not
take a pardon or parole. Left Tennesee went to Indiana and joined the 9th
Indiana Cav. and fought for the north for the remainder of the war. It's just a
fantastic page. L.D.B.
