Appearance of
“Widespread Intentional” Bias Found in Study of Over 200,000 Companies
A study by Rutgers
University law professor and veteran EEO specialist Alfred W. Blumrosen
shows the “clear appearance of widespread intentional discrimination against minorities and women by thousands of establishments.
The Ford Foundation-funded
study examined data on more than 200,000 businesses in metropolitan areas across the United States. For more than thirty
years, the federal government has collected, EEO-1 reports, annual “snapshots” of the race, sex, and ethnic composition
of all but smaller employers. These reports reflect the improvement in the employment
opportunities of minorities/women during the past three decades. Establishments
that did not participate in this improvement now literally stand out like sore thumbs when compared to similarly situated
employers. (continued...) Widespread
Transformative
Mediation
A Best Fit for the Workplace
by Larry J. Blackwell, Esq.
Alternative dispute resolution is being used with increasing
frequency in every aspect of life be it legal disputes, family quarrels, neighbor differences, business conflicts or differences
between employees on the job.
One form of mediation that has been particularly useful in
addressing employment disputes is "transformative" mediation. Transformative mediation is a process whereby people who have
a need for an ongoing interdependent relationship explore their differences at an almost therapeutic level to get their relationship
back on track.
