Band History
Desert Sage began as a trio in 1996 with Stephen Lockhart on guitar and vocals, his brother, Eric on electric bass and backup vocals, and Larry J. on percussion. Ken Fitzer on mandolin and Steve Miller, a pedal steel guitarist, joined up in 1997. Changes of band members in 2001 have delightfully developed the current lineup, with a new bassist, Mark Valdez, and a fiddler, Doug Foster, replacing the pedal steel guitarist, creating the current sound that severely demands dancing feet. And, to top it all, they have added Mike Mathews on snare drum, and occasionally been blessed with the amazing talent of 14-year old Zac Sokolow on banjo!
