Every Monday, Penny Lane played host to one of the most successful Open and Featured Poetry Readings in the country. For 19 years this weekly event, hosted by acclaimed poet and publisher Tom Peters, held the distinction of being the longest running continuous weekly open poetry showcase in the world. Tom Peters is the author of three books of poems all published in at least 2 editions: "Listen to my Machine," Rodent Press, (sold out) "over the roofs of the world," Cityful Press and reprinted by Dead Metaphor Press (sold out) and "100 missed train station," Holy Mackerel Press (sold out) and reprinted by Farfalla Press in 2002 with 12 new poems etc.. and one book of collaborations with Jack Collom and others "I know why the caged bird drinks." Peters ran and runs the "So, You're a Poet," Reading series every Monday since 1987, at the Art & Auction Gallery (1987) Penny Lane (1988-1994 & 1994-2005) West End Tavern (1994) Camille's Sidewalk Cafe (2005). He has owned and operated the "beat book shop," since 1990. His poems have been in 25 or more magazines and have been translated into Spanish, Porteguese and German. He has read his poems all over the United States to small and large audiences from a handful to as many as 20,000 people at what was then Fiddler's Green in Denver.
