Every Tuesday, Penny Lane played host to the second longest running Open Stage in Colorado. The Penny Lane Tuesday Open Stage, founded in 1995 by Benton Coons, has presented over 6000 "15 minute claims to fame".
Every Thursday, Penny Lane played host to the longest running Open Stage in Colorado. The Penny Lane Thursday Open Stage (The Original World Famous Open Stage From Hell!) was founded in 1991 by Takali Omega (AKA: Rik Curry) and Chuck Nehring (AKA: Big Mama Fitzgerald) as a semi-annual event that went weekly in August 1993. In the 14 years since its inception, this Open Stage has presented over 9000 "claims to fame". There was a total of over 15,000 Open Stage performances through out their history. From August 1994 through July 14, 2005, there was not a single week without a Penny Lane Open Stage!
Great sound was one thing that made the Penny Lane experience so memorable. These were the Penny Lane Open Stage Soundmen through the years: Chuck Nehring, Brett Charest, Richard "Crazy Bear" Smith, Peter Lakis, Benton Coons, Patrick G. Tracy, Kristin Schroder, Robert "Redeye" Cooper, Jul Sutton, Joanne DelCarpine, Jon D'Ark, Danny Shafer, Dave King and Paul (Mason) Lawhon.
The last Penny Lane Open Stage, number 1111, happened on July 14, 2005. It was hosted by Penny Lane's Chief Sound Engineer since 1998, Dave King.
