Salt Lick's "Bad Penny"

Salt Lick's Bad Penny is a Covergirl

August 2005 edition of Full Cry magazine

We are sorry to announce that we have retired Salt Lick's "Bad Penny" from our breeding program. We have been informed that several of the pups from her past litter were diagnosed with entropian (inward folded eyelid). This genetic problem is easily corrected surgically for around $150. Because of this, we felt that we could no longer in good conscience continue to use Penny as breeding stock.

Those of you who have received pups out of the magical combination of Salt Lick's "Bad Penny" X  Salt Lick's "Tree Chopper" should consider yourselves extremely lucky even considering that you may have had one with this eye problem. For they are the most intelligent, personable and hardest hunting hound you will have ever received.

Below is Penny's page as we used it to sell her pups - please enjoy.

About “Salt Lick’s Bad Penny”; “Penny” is a beautiful “high tan” hound of about 70 to 80 pounds, depending on whether or not she is nursing. A portrait photo of Penny has been published on the cover of the August 2005 edition of “Full Cry” magazine.

Penny’s first litter arrived in summer 2005 and she did a tremendous job with the eight of them. Like Chopper, Penny is a good housedog and a great traveler. She loves people and is eager to greet people when they arrive. She is vocal about telling strangers about her puppies and tries to lead the people to see them. Penny has been a great mom.

Registered Majestics have bloodhound in them. Salt Lick's Bad Penny is 5/8ths bloodhound and, talk about cold-nosed! When she is in the woods with other hounds she is constantly picking up old scent and sounding off while the other hounds wander about trying to figure out what she is talking about.

People have asked if a hound with that much bloodhound in them can still make a good treeing dog. Let's put this question to rest right now with Bad Penny. On an average day, by choice, Penny stays treed about 8 hours straight without a reward. Seven hours into the treeing we look out of our office window and are tickled pink to see her staring up as she is lying down under her tree with her tail wagging. She trees for the pure joy of it!
