These two studs are defying the odds, and stand head and shoulders above the pack
in terms of consistentcy. Some may argue that they're trying to cheat The Rocker by making fewer movies, but you can't
argue with the result.
The Classic Bull Rush
Peter Weir has made 9 major films,
and all of them are special. He seems to be trying to escape the inevitable fall through the "Kubrick Pass" by putting
out keepers until he croaks. Some folks think that the outlaws are closing in, but he's showing no signs of slowing
down. And he made arguably the best movie that cost over 100 million dollars. Ever.
A Study in Postmodernism
Quentin Tarantino has made 4 or 5 amazing pictures (depending on whether you think Kill Bill is two movies --
not if you think it's great, because it is). But he also knows something that no one else seems to get: greatness has
its limitations. Read his interview in "Why, God, Why" if you doubt me. Tarantino may be known for his balls out
filmmaking, but the thing that might keep him on the rocker is, ironically, restraint. He knows when to hold him and
knows when to fold them. And he's still holding a full house.
