Dearest Friends,
We have receive a a number of inquiries about the status of the 2009 Lake Spirit Faire. After much
consideration and review of the 2008 Lake Spirit Faire, the Olympia Brown
Unitarian Universalist Church (OBUUC) Lake Spirit Covenant of Unitarian Universalist
PaganS (LSCUUPS) has decided to postpone the Lake Spirit Faire for the 2009 year.
This was a very difficult decision to make, as many of us have very close connections with the annual
Faire, and know that for all of us it is much more than just a craft fair. On a personal note, it was this very same event,
several years ago that introduced me to OBUUC and to the greater pagan spiritual community in this area. I am not alone in
this experience, and it is our sincere hope that others will continue to discover our community through future Lake Spirit
Faires.
While the 2008 Lake Spirit Faire was a positive experience for our community, and there is continued interest
in the Faire, our experiences with the 2008 Faire have lead us to the conclusion that certain changes will need to be made
in order for LSCUUPS to continue to be able host this event. In 2008, the management of the Flat
Iron Mall doubled the rental fee for the facility. While the Lake Spirit Faire absorbed this additional cost for 2008,
this and other facility concerns mean that it will no longer be feasible to host the Lake Spirit Faire at the Flat Iron Mall.
Although we regret having to postpone the Faire, and the departure from a tradition of an annual Faire at the Flat Iron is
bittersweet, we see this as an opportunity for renewal, and are pleased to report that several new locations are under consideration
for 2010, including the De Koven Center.
While we cannot say enough to thank those individuals who volunteered their time and efforts for
the 2008 Lake Spirit Faire, a need for still more volunteers was painfully evident. Our thanks and appreciation also goes
out to each and every one of the many vendors who participated in the 2008 Lake Spirit Faire, and in Faires past. It is our
sincere hope that you will join us once again in 2010.
