You cannot possibly go wrong with the following:

Favorite Authors

Stephen R. Donaldson -- "The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant" is still my all-time favorite fantasy series, even thirty years later.

Steven Erikson -- "The Malazan Book of the Fallen" is just stunning in its scope and depth.

Patricia McKillip -- "Song for the Basilisk" is my favorite of hers, but really they're all good. It just blows me away that she can sustain that narrative voice over a whole book.

Graham Joyce -- Psychological fantasy, if that's a genre; the operative question in much of his work is, "Is it magic or is he/she just crazy as a loon?" "The Tooth Fairy" is my favorite.

Kent Haruf -- "Plainsong" is my favorite non-fantasy book, and not just because it's set in Colorado (although that doesn't hurt!). I love the simplicity of the language.

Tamora Pierce -- My daughters' all-time favorite writer. Supposedly she writes books for tweens, but her "Song of the Lioness" series can stand up against anything allegedly written for grownups.

Edgar Allen Poe -- "The Masque of the Red Death" still gives me chills.

Favorite Bands

Flook -- For my money, the best damn Irish trad group today.

Lunasa -- Another great Irish trad band.

SRD is writing "The Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant" -- here's the cover of the latest volume. It's awesome.

I'll think of something pithy to put here later.
