Fate of a Blonde
Blair came in the loft eager to find his Sentinel and lover for a little evening fun on the couch before starting dinner. He was startled to find Jim sitting in the dark. Not that the Sentinel needed the light to see. He sat down beside Jim and gently touched him.
"What's up, man?"
"I heard something at the station today about us."
"I thought we were being discreet, Jim."
"Apparently, we are being too discreet, Blair. When you first moved in with me, I used to hear rumors about Ellison's boytoy all the time. Now they just talk about Sandburg and Ellison's case closure rate and what scrape we've gotten into. No one believes we're in love anymore."
Blair smiled. Jim could be so insecure. They couldn't just come out at the station, but they had to keep up the unofficial rumors. It was perverse in a cute sort of way.
"Tell you what, babe. I'll start wearing my hair down at the station so that you can play with it while you do your paperwork. And we can make suggestive comments on our way out to lunch in front of a couple of patrolmen."
"You have to start wearing those tight jeans to work again."
"And you need to wear a turtleneck occasionally to unsuccessfully hide a passion mark."
"I'll growl whenever anyone comes near you."
"You do that now."
"I do?"
"Remember that poor records clerk they hired last week? I swear the girl was just trying to be helpful and you scared her spitless."
"She touched you."
"She handed me a file."
Blair suddenly understood what was happening at the station.
"I think I know why you don't hear rumors anymore, Jim. It's not because they don't think we're in love. It's because they think we're married and you don't spread rumors about a cop's spouse. Especially, not Ellison's spouse."
"Oh?" Jim's face lit up. Then he frowned. "Then you won't wear the tight jeans or let me play with your hair?"
"I'll even wear my wedding ring." And he pounced.
They Say We're Not in Love -- Part 2 "What is it with Sandburg and Ellison these days?" Officer Henley
complained to the desk sergeant as he watched the two walk out to lunch.
Ellison's hand rested possessively on Sandburgs's butt. "For the last
five years they've been so circumspect that everyone started to respect
their privacy. Suddenly, this week, Ellison can't keep his hands off
Sandburg.""I think that Ellison put his foot down after that pretty little thing in
records made a play for Sandburg.""Oh, I heard about that. Poor thing's afraid to go to Major Crimes."
"Serves her right for going after a cop's husband."
"It is kinda cute watching Ellison guard his "property," though."
"For such a tough guy, he is such a romantic. Who would have thought,
huh?As he and Blair waited to cross the street to Wong's Chinese, Jim listened
in on the conversation of the two officers. He grinned happily."What's got you so happy?" Blair asked.
"According to the latest gossip, I'm a romantic."
"What gave them that idea?" Blair pretended to look shocked.
"Seems that I've been jealously guarding my property from hussies from
records."Blair laughed.
"And groping my ass had nothing to do with it?"
"That's just icing on the cake."
"So now you believe that they know you love me?"
"I was being insecure wasn't I?"
"You were. Now let's skip the Chinese and go to the loft for a little
home cooking.""TAXI!"
Epilogue Midge Goldblatt, records clerk, peeked into the bullpen making sure that
Detective Ellison was still out to lunch with his partner. She had called
Rhonda to check before coming up, but a girl couldn't be too careful."Here's the files you requested, Inspector Conner." The little blonde
smiled at Megan."Thanks, Midge," Megan replied politely. So this was the little hussy
from records. She noticed that Midge was keeping her distance from Jim's
desk. This was too good an opportunity to pass up. "Has Detective
Ellison done something to offend you, Midge?""It was my fault, really. No one told me that he and Blair were --uh --
together.""You touched Blair?" Megan put absolute shock in her voice.
"I handed him a file! I may have put my other hand on his arm."
"Jim Ellison only allows female medical personnel to touch Blair in the
course of treating life threatening injury or illness. You are lucky to
still have a hand.""So I've been told. You know, I think I'm not cut out for police work.
There's an opening in a law firm downtown I think I'll look into.""That may be wise."
Midge scurried out of Major Crimes. Rafe and Brown joined Megan at her
desk."Don't you think you laid it on a bit thick?" Brown asked
Jim and Blair returned from "lunch". A passion mark peeked from beneath
the edge of Jim's collar. Blair's hair was decidedly mussed. Both fairly
glowed with happiness.Blair noted the conspiratorial look on the trio's faces.
"Okay, guys what's going on?"
"Not much, Blair. Just doing our part for true love."

Fate of a Blonde "I'm sure that you will be very happy here at Stodgy, Bent and Driven," the Records Center Manager welcomed Midge to the firm.
The days went very well for Midge. The work was good and no one growled at her. She made a few friends. She had lunch with her new friend Pam, a legal secretary.
"You used to work for the Cascade PD? We have few attorneys who dealt with the police. As a matter of fact, one of the new partners used to be an assistant district attorney. Beverly Sanchez. Poor woman. She tried dating Blair Sandburg's main squeeze, Detective Jim Ellison."
Midge nearly choked on her Lean Cuisine.
"Detective Ellison?"
"Major Crimes. Busts a lot of people. Makes a lot of work for the firm. We do criminal law, you know. Professor Blair Sandburg has been a consultant to the PD for five years and staked claim to Ellison from the very beginning. Sandburg let her date Ellison but made sure that she lived to regret it. She was one of the lucky ones."
"I heard that Ellison was the possessive one, " Midge ventured warily, not wanting to reveal her own history with the two.
"Ellison's girl friends are the ones that usually end up dead. Blair's just end up scared off. You tell me which one of the two is more dangerous?"
Midge took a cleansing breath. She was very lucky indeed.
