Striving for a balance of loving
temperament, correct
conformation, and overall good health is important to the breed's
success in the conformation ring, obedience ring, or as a family
companion. For this reason, health clearances are done on
all breeding stock and mates are carefully selected by evaluating
their conformational strengths/weaknesses to ensure the offspring are as
good or better than their parents. Black, black/tan, brown, and
brown/tan are the colors you will see most on the website, but on
occasion we may have buffs. By
choice, Ky-Ann Cockers is small in numbers so our dogs can live
indoors and enjoy family life, which is crucial to this
breed. Puppies are extensively socialized from birth
through interaction with family members, opportunities to greet our
large dogs, and at 6 - 8 weeks they are introduced to our cat. They experience walking on different
surfaces/textures and
are exposed to typical
household sounds beginning at 3 weeks of age when their ears
open. Toenail trimming begins at 1 - 2 weeks; baths/haircuts begin at 4
weeks as well as teaching the pups to stand/stack on the grooming table. This early socialization
with positive experiences is so critical to a young puppy's
emotional development and should continue even after the puppy
enters it's new home, whether it be a show home or a pet/family home. For more
information on socializing a puppy and deciding if this is the right
breed for your family, go to the INSIGHT/BUYING page.
