4-H RABBIT SHOWMANSHIP GUIDE

First Rule
Eyes

Always keep your eyes on the judge.
You may look away for a second to check the rabbit while you are fitting and showing, but then look directly back at the judge.

Second Rule
Smile

Always SMILE no matter what.
Even if you don't win Grand Champion, smile.
Show that you can be a good loser as well as a great winner!

Third Rule
ribbon

Never take your ribbon before you are dismissed, then take the ribbon before you get your rabbit.
The judge will place the ribbon on the table in front of you.
You do not want to seem greedy or showy.

Fourth Rule
Standing

Stand at the table with your hands to your side or behind you.
You may re-arrange the rabbit as necessary, or do your fitting and showing steps, but do not fidgit!

Fifth Rule
Speak Up

Speak Up When Answering Questions
Very often, there are a lot of people watching the competition.
This people tend to whisper, talk, and generally make noise, no matter who asks or how many times they are asked to be quiet.
For the judge to hear your answers correctly,
you need to speak up.
However, do not SHOUT, or mumble when speaking.

Sixth Rule
Questions?

If you have any questions for the judge, ask them before the fitting and showing competition starts.
The judge should give a preliminary talk before starting.
Important things to know beforehand are posing or resting position of your rabbit on the table, and whether the wearing of numbers by competitors will be used or not.

Seventh Rule
Brush Your Hair!

Girls need to pull long hair back and up, or have the short hair brushed and possibly clipped back from their face.
Boys need to BRUSH their hair!

Eighth Rule
Dress Code

Stick to your show's dress code.
Get a copy of the dress code from whomever is in charge of the fair rules or show rules several days before the competition.
