Q. Where are you located?
A. In Queens, New York.
Q. Do you have your own in-house digital studio?
A. Yes! I have a simple, "boothless" recording setup at home (Shure SM58 + MBox + Pro Tools LE).
I also regularly rent recording booths by the hour in Manhattan which usually involve working with engineers. Some rental
studios have access to ISDN sessions if you need to participate.
Q. We are located in Ohio. How can we work with you?
A. A bit costly, but via ISDN session is one option. ISDN session lets you listen to my recording
while it is being done at a rented ISDN-capable studio in New York, allowing you to give directions and comments in real time
from your local ISDN-capable studio. In other words, to do this ISDN session, both of us will have to be at a rented ISDN-capable
studios simultaneously, and you will need to cover the cost of ISDN studio rental and expenses. Please email me or
call me to ask for the detailed procedure if you are interested in doing ISDN sessions with me.
Click http://www.digifon.com/DDLtableOH-WY.html ) for the nearest ISDN equipped studios in the US. If ISDN is not your cup of tea, you can simply ask for "packaged
session". For this, you will send me an approved script, give me an instruction in advance, and I will record and edit on
my own and send them to you either on CD, via email or via ftp. I may have to rent a recording booth/studio in a furnished
setting in Manhattan, or I may record from my simple home studio set-up, depending on the turnaround time and your budget.
Please be advised that packaging will require additional recording expenses, editing and engineering fee (if applicable),
on top of the VO fee. All scripts have to be approved before the booking is confirmed. A week to 10 days may be required
to secure a reasonably-priced recording studio in Manhattan available.
Q. How can I hear your voice sample?
A. Please refer to VO unions SAG and AFTRA for standard rates -- rates do vary depending upon usage,
type of products, volume and technicality of the content, etc. Also important: Please note that THE SCRIPT MUST BE CHECKED
AND APPROVED PRIOR TO THE RECORDING.
Accent and Pronunciation Preferences in Japanese
In a Japanese script, pronunciation preferences have to be ultimately cleared by the client side in prior to booking a
VO recording. In some cases, there may be several 'correct' ways to accent a word in the standard Japanese speech. Any
Japanese speaking VO talent will ultimately need to confirm with producers regarding pronunciation preferences (if any), after
of course looking up in a Japanese Accent Dictionary first. Oftentimes, words to watch for are new product names and technical
terms in KATAKANA including ones originating from non-Japanese languages. Any re-recording taking place to correct
pronuncion preferences, and accomodate script revisions will be considered as 'new' recording assignment and subject to additional
fee.
VO length -- the most misunderstood issue
Almost always studio time for VO recordings cannot be estimated based on the prospective length of a final product.
As you can easily imagine, you may need me to do several takes for a single read to have as a backup, not to mention time
and effort required to be put in for editing and engineering.
Please be advised that I no longer deliver a lengthy VO segment from my home studio, except for scratch / audition purposes.
This is the decision I had to make in order to deliver the highest quality VO in my limited availability.
For a final product comprising VO segments (files) that are longer than 15 minutes per segment(file), please inquire for my
availability in a rented booth studio, where I can work with an engineer so as to maintain the best quality in an efficient
manner. In cases where we decide to work from a rented recording studio, please note that all studio expenses including engineer's
fee and studio rental will be charged hourly (one hour minimum).
