Resume Development - Accomplishment Statements

A well-developed resume is a key tool in your job search. Accomplishments are the heart of the resume and demonstrate your capabilities in real terms. The trick is to recall them. This will help you talk about your background in a more convincing manner. You'll have a better understanding of yourself and why you've been successful.

Read through the following list of questions - see which ones call to mind an accomplishment. Write down key words or phrases for use in writing your resume.

·        What problem(s) did you identify and solve?  Specify results.

·        Did you introduce a product(s) that improved profits?

bullet

·        Did you introduce a plan or procedure that improved sales? Profits? Decreased downtime?

bullet

·        Were you part of a team or committee that introduced a new program?  What were the results?

bullet

·        Were you part of decision-making on any project?  What was your contribution?

bullet

·        Were you ever published?  In-house, special reports, etc.

bullet

·        Did you ever write a proposal that was approved and implemented?

bullet

·        Were you ever involved in a start-up operation?  What was your role?

bullet

·        Did you ever streamline a program or department?  How successful was it?

bullet

·        Did you ever introduce or create an automated system? How successful was it?

bullet

·        Did you supervise/manage staff?  How many?

bullet

·        Were you responsible for creating/implementing/monitoring a budget?  How large?

bullet

·        Did you ever train people?  How many?

bullet

·        Did you meet/exceed project goals and deadlines?  By how much?

bullet

·        Were you required at anytime to do more with less/same/fewer resources?

bullet

·        What was your caseload volume?

bullet

·        Did you receive awards/bonuses?  Reason.

·        Have you ever created a spreadsheet that replaced a manual system?

bullet

·        Were you ever promoted?  Why?

bullet

·        Did you ever manage a project?  What were the results?

This list is by no means inclusive. Think of other situations where you made a difference. Be specific and quantify, whenever possible.
