Camping and Hiking at Standing Indian

/pight unseen, Tom Hall led us on a wonderful weekend car camp at Standing Indian, NC. The weather was perfect; fall definitely in the air! Roger kept the campfire going, Pete 'n Sue entertained us with campfire stories, and even Jean stayed up past her bedtime to "help solve the world's problems". Our camp sites were by the Nananhala River, tho it looked more like a mountain stream where we were. Not only were we serenaded with the usual crickets and night sounds, we enjoyed the soothing sounds of the rushing water.

Saturday we had a seven mile hike on the AT. Sunday morning, Roger suggested we hike a short trail, Picken Nose, named, I suppose, because one rock cliff could by wild imagination, look like a nose. Maybe it dripped in wet weather???? AFTER we got in there, we found out we were in a bear sanctuary! I thought I heard a bear, but Sue scared it off!

All in all, one of KOAC's best outings! Thanks, Tom!
