Saturday, December 5, Day Hike at Sweetwater Creek State Park, Yellow Trail
This trail, also known as the East Side Trail, is a moderate three-mile hike. The trail drops into the creek
valley then heads upstream to the metal bridge across Sweetwater Creek at Ferguson's Crossing.
We will travel clockwise on the loop trail up the less steep route to the top of the ridge. As we descend
through the ravine on the south side of the loop, we'll watch for the rock overhang across from the trail.
Archeologists have estimated that Native Americans used this overhang as a shelter for at least 2000 years.
After completing the yellow trail, we will hike 1 mile along the blue trail to view the Mill ruins and eat
our packed lunches. A half-mile trail along the red-trail alongside Sweetwater Creek will return us to
the parking lot. Total hiking distance 4.5 miles.
Meet at 9:30 at the KSU Continuing Education Parking lot at 9:00 am or at the park at 9:45 am.
