THEATRICAL KNITTING

I specialize in custom knit or crocheted costumes for theater, film, dance, music videos, fashion, and even Bert and Ernie on Sesame Street.  After working in two New York costume shops, I opened my own business in 1987 to concentrate on fiber crafts and beaded jewelry.

Experienced in both machine and hand knitting, I have been described as an adventurous knitter willing to try to knit any kind of "yarn", including some that were never meant to be knit.  At the same time, I have made a lot of historical costume pieces and chain mail.

In addition to the costume work, I am the recording secretary for The Associate of Theatrical Artists and Craftspeople (ATAC), a professional trade association of artists, designers, and craftspeople.  I also serve on the editorial board of  "The Entertainment Sourcebook", the insider's guide to finding  support services for live performance, film, commercials, and even weddings.

Film work includes:  Big Fish, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, Little Women, Stepmom, One True Thing, Ed Wood, Philadelphia, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Skylark, and Billy Bathgate.

Broadway shows include: CATS, Thoroughly Modern Millie,  Miss Saigon,  Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Victor/Victoria ,and Into the Woods.

Other projects include: I'm a Slave 4U (video), Hi Honey I'm Home (TV show), That's Christmas (stage show), and Carnival of the Animals (for New York City Ballet).

BEADWORK

Working on the gorgeous beaded costumes for Broadway started my love affair with those pesky, addictive beads.  I have tried bead embroidery and brick stitch jewelry but got hooked on bead crochet about 8 years ago when I took Miriam Milgrim's class in Balkan Beaded Crochet.  Since then I have developed beaded snake necklaces that have been  included in two of the Bead Society of Greater New York group exhibits at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City.  In 2003 two of my beaded rattlesnakes traveled to Tokyo, Japan as part of an an exhibit and sale at the Takashimaya department store.

I have recently learned Iroquois raised beadwork as part of a group project entitiled "Ska-Ni-Kwat" organized by Samuel Thomas and held at the National Museum of the American Indian in New York City.
