Anton NEUHAUSER arrived in the United States
on 25 June 1840 aboard the Bremen Bark Louis. He
originally settled in New York City. Anton filed
his intent to seek citizenship 20 September 1844 in
Superior Court of New York City. On 9 March 1848,
in New York County Common Pleas Court, he received
citizenship papers.
Anton married Sabrina SCHLARB. They had five
children: four born in NYC and one in Pennsylvania.
About 1857, the family moved to Mahoning Township,
Montour County PA where the last child, Mary, was
born. After 1860, the family moved to Schuylkill
County, PA.
Anton's son, Charles William NEUHAUSER (also
spelled NEWHOUSER), was born in New York City in
1854. He attended the Dickinson Seminary (now
Lycoming College) of Williamsport, PA in 1876-77.
At that time the school was a college-prep boarding
school run by the Methodist Church. His name is
listed on the class roster (1876-77) as "Ch. Wm.
NEWHOUSER of Shenandoah City". Charles William
married Emma Jane BREISCH, whose ancestors
had immigrated from Germany before 1764. Emma was
born and raised at Catawissa township, Columbia
County, PA. By 1880, Charles was a merchant/grocer
on Main Street, Shenandoah, PA. Charles remained in
Shenandoah until about 1905.
Charles and Emma NEUHAUSER had four children born
in Shenandoah. Their third child and only son,
Roy Lyman NEUHAUSER was born in 1886. The
family moved to Washington, D.C. about 1905 where
Roy Lyman attended George Washington University
earning a B.A. in 1909 and a law degree in 1912.
On13 October 1912 he was admitted to the bar in the
District of Columbia. He was admitted to practice
in the Supreme Court of the District of Columbia in
1913.
Roy Lyman married Marguerite PHILLIPS, the
daughter of Robert Augustus and Mary Imogene
(BARBOUR) PHILLIPS. He had an investment banking
firm, Roy L. Neuhauser Company, Inc., located at
the Institute of Economics Building in Washington,
D.C. He passed away on 8 Oct 1929, leaving behind a
widow and four young children.
