Information gathered from various
sources including emails from other researchers,
etc.
James HUNTSMAN was born 1772. He lived in Buffalo Twp.,
Northumberland, PA but it's likely that he was born in
Lancaster, PA (His father James HUNTSMAN and wife Deborah
MASSEY moved to Northumberland County about the time of
the Revolutionary War).
He died 13 Dec 1823 in Perry, Richland, OH. He married
Maria Cathrina WEYRICH.
Around 1800, James HUNTSMAN moved westward to Washington
County, PA and then on to Ohio. He was in Belmont County,
OH by 1805. He eventually made his way to Perry, OH.
Perry Township lies in both Richland and Morrow Counties,
OH. According to the 1880 History of Morrow County, OH,
James HUNTSMAN arrived in what was to become Perry
Township in 1817. This was just six years after the first
white man built a cabin. Perry Township was organized in
the spring of 1817. Peter WIRICK was elected a trustee
and James HUNTSMAN's brother, Jonathan, was elected
clerk. 1880 History of Morrow County at P. 484.
James HUNTSMAN was Perry Township's Justice of the Peace.
A note in his own handwriting survives which he signed on
19 Mar 1819 certifying that Adam KIRK had killed a "bich"
(sic) wolf and was entitled to payment of "fore" (sic)
dollars.
