    Alvin H. Sherman

    "Alvin H. SHERMAN was born October 4,1852 near Oil City, Clarion County, PA. and died in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, March 7, 1934 at the age of 81 years 5 months and 3 days.
    On February 2, 1881 he was married to Rose HUNTSMAN, m. in Emerson, Mills County, Iowa. and to this union was born six children five of whom are living the eldest daughter Allie having preceded him in death in 1930 at Cheyenne Wells.
    In 1887 they moved to California, living there about 4 1/2 years, returning to Emerson, Iowa where they made their home until coming to Colorado in 1907.
    They homesteaded in the southeast part of the county and moved to Cheyenne Wells where they have since made their home. In 1931 they celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary. In 1889 he united with the First Baptist church of Emerson, Iowa.
    He is survived by his wife, Rose SHERMAN; five children, Cleve SHERMAN of Alamosa, Colorado; Mrs. Lulu TAYLOR and Mrs. Faye LAMBERT of Arapahoe, Colorado; Lew SHERMAN of Liberty, Missouri; and Mrs. Dora GUDGEL of Cheyenne Wells, two brothers, one sister, twenty-two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He had a kind and gentle disposition and was ever a faithful and loving husband and father.
    He was a Past Master of the Masonic Lodge of Emerson, which he joined almost 50 years ago.

    Funeral services for the deceased were held at the Methodist church Saturday at 2 o'clock p.m., the sermon being delivered by Rev. Chesnutt. Mr. Sherman was a Mason of many years standing and his funeral was attended in a body by the local brethren. The services at the grave were conducted with the solemn ritual of the Masonic fraternity."
