| Medium: oil on Strathmore Size: 10" x 12" Title: Cezanne |
Cezanne asked himself why he sacrificed so much on a career which brought him only misery and pain. "I am a MONK." he complained, "isolated on a distant mountain; I have no social life; I am hated, distrusted, and worse, I cannot achieve my objectives as an artist. Then, in a more philosophical frame of mind, he said: "I do not, it appears, go backward or forward; nevertheless, it is essential that I continue. The truth of the matter is I am set on my course, my voyage will go on, until, hopefully, I am safely in port, or perhaps, by chance, wrecked on the rocks!"
