l'Eglise de St. Bonaventure TO LOOK BACK IS AS EMPTY AS LOOKING FORWARD; to have and to hold takes precedence; no middle area can surpass this. The supreme action of life is in what did not happen: those events dreamed of, but never touched. Reverence is part of it: that respect, yes, for what might have been.

You can have both; the visions as well as the grind; that picture of incompetence, where the ignominious fall short of our imaginations. But look, think of what life would be without the "look about" which strays from the narrow path; the line that often excludes the far reaches: to see horizons rounds out the inner dullness of function.

There is always a HIGH PRICE TO PAY, which even with failure, is worth whatever it entails. To have tried and failed is a noble thing; to have tried, and succeeded, yes, is even nobler. The subtleties of existence, for the most part, are invisible: mountains that loom over us, and yet, we are not aware.
