Hi, I'm Jan Scaglia, owner of Nurturing Therapeutic Massage in lower Fairfield County, working as a licensed massage therapist as well as a Labor Doula certified through DONA International since 2000. I have been assisting laboring women by offering them emotional and physical support during the birth of their babies. I love working with expectant mothers; it keeps me connected with my own experiences and that special time in my life. The combination of my professional and personal experiences allow me to provide a more wholesome massage session for my clients. During prenatal massages I use a cushion support system which allows the client to be on her stomach with full support. Many women are skeptical of this and while receiving a relaxing massage I allow them to choose their position of comfort which may also be side-lying and/or lying on their back with a large wedge behind them. I have found because I am a labor doula many clients ask related questions during their massage, and they find the information gained to be a wonderful addition. I received my certificate of graduation from the Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy Medical Massage Program, Massage Therapist Connecticut Licensed, and am certified through National Certification of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCTMB). I have training in the massage techniques of Swedish, sports, medical, acupressure, MotherMassage®, Reiki, and infant massage. I offer Therapeutic Massage and very much enjoy working with pregnant women, who are especially in need of relaxing and receiving healing bodywork. I am trained and experienced in Pregnancy Massage and have been working with pregnant women since I began practicing in 1998. I will often include reiki in my massage for greater relaxation. Charges are "per hour" ($65), although I highly recommend a more thorough 75-minute session ($80). Beyond pregnancy massage I also offer swedish, deep tissue, hot stone, reiki and couples massage -- and will soon be offering organic facials and body wraps. I call my space an "urban retreat". Although it is an office setting in the city, it is a relaxing and peacful escape. I have shower facilities for anyone returning to work after a midday massage or following with dinner at one of the fabulous restaurants in New Haven.
