Those who receive Ortho-Bionomy:
- Experience enduring relief from chronic, nagging pain
- Enjoy enhanced flexibility and coordination
- Notice improvement in their sleep
- Find it painless, comfortable, and appropriate for people of any age or condition.
Ortho-Bionomy embraces the radical view that the process of feeling pleasure can be about healing and the process of healing
can be pleasurable. It is about the connection of all parts of the consciousness: body, mind, spirit. It is about the relationship
to the self, and the relationship of the self to the rest of the world. It addresses the tension and stress that are held
in our bodies, that prevents our essential nature from shining through.
Ortho-Bionomy is a way of life based upon the willingness to accept and work in harmonious functioning with the way things
are.
This work is reflective, nurturing, and supportive, demonstrating to the recipient where s/he is, rather than telling
them where s/he should be. The result is that the work becomes about facilitating the process of becoming who you really are.
The reflective nature of the work is geared toward producing the facilitating you in becoming who you really are. Ortho-Bionomy's
founder, Dr. Arthur Lincoln Pauls, called it The Evolvement of the Original Concept. In other words, your experience, trauma,
and injury are gently reflected to you as they are manifesting in your consciousness. This allows them to be processed and
integrated. The removal of self-imposed limitations allows our essential nature to shine through.
How Does Ortho-Bionomy Work?
OB works by re-educating the neuro-muscular system. It's premise is that when you exaggerate the body's preferences and reflect
them back to the receiver, the body's self-correcting and self-balancing reflexes are stimulated.
This client-centered work addresses each person's individual pattern in a unique and personal way. By following the preferences
and limitations of the client, using movement and gentle compression, subtle but profound effects are produced in a supportive,
nurturing manner. The nervous system is shown how to reset the body's neuromuscular reflexes resulting in a diminishing or
elimination of chronic pain and injury. Long held patterns in the consciousness can be released safely, comfortably and deeply.
What are Sessions Like?
Ortho-Bionomy sessions are deeply relaxing and incredibly profound. They are performed clothed, without oils or creams, with
you lying on a soft massage table. The practitioner gently positions and moves the body, giving it feedback and data, allowing
it to recognize what is going on in there. Your only requirement as a recipient is a willingness to provide feedback regarding
any discomfort and the ability to let go as much as you are able to at the time. It is a good idea to wear clothing which
allows movement.
Individuals find the experience very soothing and many drift off into a state of profound relaxation. Functioning as a
facilitator for your healing process, the practitioner is the guide toward helping the recipient achieve his/her natural state
by assisting in the processing of patterns imposed on the consciousness by his/her experiences.
What conditions can Ortho-Bionomy help?
I have worked with people who have repeated pain and "revolving door" discomfort, have experienced injuries from
falls, auto accidents, concussions, and physical abuse, and such chronic conditions as fibromyalgia and scoliosis.
Conditions which are able to be addressed through this work include
- Physical traumas, such as falls, car accidents and sports injuries
- Unresolved and/or unresolved issues of pain or physical limitation
- Emotional traumas, such as emotional/physical abuse, childhood traumas, molestation
- Chronic conditions, including some congenital disorders
How did you learn Ortho-Bionomy?
Ortho-Bionomy is taught in a series of weekend classes throughout the US, Canada, Australia and Europe. I have completed thousands
of hours of training. As a workshop coordinator, I attended classes extensively, as well as assisting the instructor at the
table with hands-on guidance.
Who may teach Ortho-Bionomy?
Instructors are designated by the Society of Ortho-Bionomy International after extensive, specialized training.
Is there any sort of certification for Ortho-Bionomy practitioners?
The Society of Ortho-Bionomy International® has ways of ensuring the amount of training and capability of those practicing
Ortho-Bionomy. There are a number of hours required in order to use the trademarked name "Ortho-Bionomy". In addition,
there are 500 hour Practitioner and Advanced Practitioner training programs, ensuring that those who use those designations
have been exhaustively trained.
