Here is a little background on the car: It is a 1974 Chevy Nova that I have owned since 1991. When I purchased the car,
it had extensive damage to the rear of the car. It was a very plain car...6 cylinder, 3 speed on the column, rubber floor
mat, etc... With the help of my Dad, we replaced the rear quarters, tail light panel and trunk lid. My Dad then painted
the car. I added a set of rally wheels and drove the car like this until 1994. At that time, my Dad and I built a mild small
block and swapped it into the car. I continued to drive the car through college until 1996. The paint was starting to show
it's age, so I started to dissassemble the car for paint. Being in college, I ran out of time and money and the car sat in
primer for 10 years. In 2006, after my wife and I moved to North Carolina, we had the car shipped from Missouri and the transformation
of the car has begun.
Although some builders will strip a car completely down and start with a bare shell, I am building my car with a different
approach. My plan is to install the suspension and drivetrain first. Even though the car will be in primer, I will put a
few thousand miles on the car to work out any problems and tune both the suspension and drivetrain. Once I am happy with
the performance, the car will be disassembled for paint. The reason I am taking this approach is to avoid cutting and welding
on a car that has already been painted. If I am not happy with the performance of the suspension or drivetrain during the
intial stage, it will not be a problem to replace either of them with a different setup.
Now, on to the good stuff. Below are links to the progress.
