It has been awhile since I have written anything. Work has been keeping me really busy. The automotive industry is booming
here in North Carolina! Long hours and weekend work has been the norm for me for the last several months. Luckily, there
appears to be a small break in the action, so ia m trying to take advantage of it and get some work done on the Nova.
Since my last update, I have removed the front A-arms (lower and upper), spindles, hubs, steering arms and cross shafts.
All of the bushings have been pressed out and the ball joints were removed. During the disassembly process, I found that
one of my spindles was in poor shape. After I removed the hub from the driver's side spindle, I remembered that I had spun
one of the bearing races when I was in high school. During those days, money was tight, so I cleaned up the spindle with
emory cloth, installed a new bearing and was back on the road. Knowing that the "new" Nova will see track days as well as
some high speed jaunts, I decided to replace both spindles. I ordered new spindles from Detroit Speed.
Last week I received the parts back from getting powder coated in satin black. They turned out really nice! If you are looking
for a place in the Raleigh-Durham area, check out Top Coat in Raleigh. Their service is excellent and the price is really good too. Just talk to Mark and he will take care of you.
Last weekend I started pre-assembling the front suspension. The Delrin bushings from Detroit Speed are pressed into the lower
A-arms, the polyurethane bushings are pressed into the upper A-arms and almost all of the ball joints are installed. Unfortunately,
I ruined one of the lower ball joints and had to order a replacement from Rock Auto. It should arrive later this week and I will start assembling everything to the car.
I'm ready to get this car back on its own tires. Hopefully, that will happen in the near future.
