Since childhood, I have been quite the obnoxious sports fan. I do recall decorating my parents basement for the NBA Finals
featuring the Chicago Bulls and the Portland Trail Blazers. Being so excited, I actually broke my arm from jumping to and
from chairs and couches. The best part was when my sister laughed at me and said I deserved it! She was right. Of course I
had my cast in Bulls red in honor of my favorite team.
Then there were the poor walls of my bedroom that were plastered with posters, newspaper articles, rookie cards, and even
shirts I had acquired over the years. I still do not decorate all that well but that is a whole different story.
How many time I can remember being out playing basketball and dreaming of making the buzzer beating shot to win it all.
In middle school, our school started the first 7th and 8th grade team. I will never forget the beautiful green and white
polyester uniform that we put on and lost almost every game :) My sister played on the high school team at the time and I
was at all the games anyway so the coach asked me if I would like to be the manager. It was great except you had to actually
pay attention and not cheer! They went to the state championship that year but lost. For me that was just more fuel for the
fire.
As high school came around, I could not wait until volleyball was over and we started playing basketball. We always started
with a Christmas tournament. I loved the warm up, the competition and the energy put forth by young athletes.
Still today, you will catch me in my long, baggy shorts and a matching tee. Right now as I type, there is a basketball
in my living room. Remember decorating is not my strong suit :)
Jess said he was thinking of changing jobs and it seems all the states I mentioned were big basketball states. When North
Carolina was an option, I was estatic. Upon moving here, our first stop was the University of North Carolina and I have been
a fan ever since!
Game review
North Carolina vs. Virginia Tech-The Hokies did not miss a shot. They were up by as much as 22 points and although the
Tarheels made a good run at the end... they just never got out of their funk. I am seeing bad visions of March crunch time
and them not shooting from outside. They will be in trouble if they cannot make some baskets from the 3-point range. I still
love them!
