Jade is my beautiful lady with the green eyes. She arrived just before Fluffy started to tame.
She was a kitten about to have kittens herself. Jade was obviously an abandoned stray. She was very tame and loving
from the start.
The veterinarian had assured me she was at least two weeks and probably longer before delivery. Our
house is a tri-level and we did not use the bottom level. This would become Jade's own apartment. I moved her
down there. That night she delivered her kittens prematurely. She was terrified and I slept on the floor with
her the entire night. Unfortunately one kitten was born dead and the others died shortly after birth. That night,
however, bonded Jade to me in a special way. She considers me hers and is openly displeased if any human females come
close to me. She glares at Kathy making sure Kathy knows Jade considers her an intrusion. Fortunately, after Patch
and Callie have joined her, she is less posessive of me and has accepted Kathy.
Jade is far and away the most intelligent of all the cats. She is self aware and will primp and preen
in front of a mirror. I originally had one of those automated litter boxes. It worked well for the first month,
but then Jade figured out the working of the electric eye and burned out the motor riding the cleaning carriage back and forth.
She would let it reach almost its full run, then put her paw over the eye to reset the mechanism and get a ride back.
None of the others even come close to her intellect.
UPDATED JUNE, 2005
Things have remained status quo for Jade. She remains her loveable self. Jade is one
of the three cats that travels with me when I work out of town. My work situation is unique in that I work out of town
for two weeks followed by two weeks off. I have a small house in the town where I work. Jade, Patch, and Callie
travel with me. Jade is excellent in the car. It is a three hour trip and she just sleeps the entire time.
She has the most beautiful deep green eyes. It is easy to see where she got her name.
UPDATED OCTOBER, 2006
For the most part, Jade has done well this past year. She has always had allergy problems
and often would get skin irritation and running eyes in the spring and fall. This summer, the eye allergy was real bad
and persisted through the summer. I found that if I added a little bit of opthalmic antibiotic ointment to the corner
of each eye after washing her face, the drainage would clear up. She has been doing great ever since. Jade has
finally accepted Mocha into their group as has Patch. Now if Callie would just give in. Big changes are in store
for Jade, Calllie, and Patch . I have changed jobs and will no longer be on the road. That means no more traveling
for these three and just one home.
UPDATED JULY, 2010
Jade has remained very healthy over the last four years. She remains the queen bee of the downstairs group.
