Slow Fire

                      Slow Fire

I live in a pool of trusting love,
     calm as a tarn under the stars,
     deep as an ocean, steel blue, endless;
          It's waves lap the shores of forever.
At center, a warm glow, your heart;
     not that scorching flame that burns,
     not that quick, painful attraction,
     not that bright light that in the end
          singes the moth, it falls, consumed.
It is instead that slow fire burning deep,
     that, in rain, lives hidden safely within the log.
     In nurtured dry, it flames forth,
     just enough;
     It is with me always.
Not accustomed am I to the depth of that trust,
     not yet, maybe never. How can I,
     for no leash restrains me,
     only my slow fire that burns deeply,
     burning ever for you.
