Night Photography

The Nocturnes   night photography group web site. Galleries, Technique, Message Board, and Workshops.
Nocturnes Message Board   is a good source of news on this talented group, as well as general night photography information.

Dan Heller.com   This site offers a huge amount of experience-based information on making photos in a variety of settings, but specializes in travel photos taken outdoors. There is a lot of good stuff here on night photography, especially star trails and other night work. His work has a documentary quality to it that works well in a commercial setting.

Ken Rockwell.com   Ken Rockwell is a So Cal based photographer that has put together one of the most comprehensive How Too photography web sites out there. If I am trying to figure out something, his site is always one I'll visit. His un-biased reviews of all sorts of things, from cameras, lenses, film, scanners, etc, are especially useful.

Lost America   Troy Paiva's night photography and the Abandoned Roadside West.
Lost America's Links Page   is one of the best night photo resources around.

David Baldwin Night Photography   from London. This site features excellent work with a mystical feel about it. His Guest page features one of my images with insightful commentary.

Ken Carr   Ken shoots railroads at night and has some spectacular images to show for it. He mostly works around his home in Las Vegas, roaming southwest into the Mojave Desert and north to Meadow Valley Wash.
New Addition

Luc Lavoie   from Quebec, Canada. Luc presents work featuring beautiful graphic design and a sense of space I find compelling. He has a light touch with flash painting too. His site has been expanded recently to present a broader scope of work.

Mike Johannessen   Mike is a talented night photographer of the railroad scene. His site is just an index list of images without thumbnails, but hidden in there are some spectacular images.
New Addition

Yuichi Takasaka's Aurora's   Amazing images of auroras from northern Canada
New Addition

PhilPankov.com   Pictures of Ireland: Night Photography of Ireland by Philip Pankov, award-winning Irish photographer.

Cambridge in Colour - Photography & Tutorials Night and low-light photography of Cambridge University in England. Digital camera tutorials , techniques, and examples also available.

Large format work by Gordon Osmundson. This body of work includes beautiful images of machinery, as well as night photography using big flashbulbs and big sheets of film. It is well worth a visit.

Bill Sharpsteen has some beautiful moonlight work in his large general portfolio. His method, including use of a flashlight to create a "river of light" in a landscape image, was featured in the Feb 2004 issue of Outdoor Photographer.

Jeff Brouws One of the co-authors of the book "Starlight on the Rails", and a tallented photographer of the twilight.

Michael Frye will leave you breathless. His stuff either inspires you or makes you want to go burn your film.
