Air Force One

Starring: Harrison Ford, Gary Oldman, Glenn Close
Directed by: Wolfgang Petersen
Released: Sony Pictures Entertainment, 1997

Harrison Ford stars as the Last Action President in yet another testosterone-laden terror-in-the-skies actioner. Ford, who has made a name for himself playing the oh-all-right-I'll-kick-some-ass action hero, stars as the prez who must best a gang of terrorists bent on hijacking the title's aircraft. Led by Gary Oldman, these lackeys have the typically generic, clean-cut, Eastern European accents and motive -- they'll hold the plane ransom for an imprisoned Khazakstanian general. While it may seem that most of the script was cut and pasted from the Die Hard trilogy, it's director Wolfgang Petersen's nose for technicalities that sells this one to the audience. Despite a slow beginning, once the automatic weapons are in sight, things are kept on high speed till the end. Get off my plane, indeed.
