In FY 2003 and FY 2002, Thailand was the 18th most popular adoptive country in the US. In Canada, Thailand was the 11th most popular in 2002.

Both genders are available and parents can specify the gender as well.


Note: The requirements and process below is combined with US laws, but it should be a basis for citizens of other countries.


Requirements

In order to adopt an infant, the parents must be under 45 years old. No more than one divorce is acceptable. The annual income of the family should be at least 30,000. Childless or one-child families are preferred. If a family has two children of the same gender, they can adopt a child of the opposite gender. Progress reports of the child must be sent every two months for six months after the child is adopted.

Process

Parents receive a photo and medical and background information prior to meeting the child. The child is tested for AIDS and Hepatitis B. The time spent in Thailand is two weeks.
