Vietnamese Children
Most children available are infants between 3 and 9 months. There are more boys than girls. Legally, all children are available
for adoption through government facilities, including orphanages.
Note: The requirements and process below is combined with US laws, but it should be a basis
for citizens of other countries.
Requirements
Couples need to be married for at least one year. Couples without children must be flexible in adopting either a boy or girl.
Singles and couples with children in the home can choose a gender. Those younger than 55 and with at the most five children,
are given priority. Parents must be 20 years older than the child. A few orphanages have requirements for income and number
of children in the home.
Process
After paperwork arrives in Vietnam, it takes 3 - 5 months for photos and medical information to arrive. Two trips to Vietnam
are required. It takes longer to adopt a girl than a boy.

Other Information / Vietnam

Major Reasons Vietnamese Children are being put up for Adoption
The children are usually given up for adoption because of poverty.
Advantages
Many families adopt a girl from China and then a boy from Vietnam.
Disadvantages
Fraud of adoption documents can occur. Some may force a woman to give up her child for adoption and she is given money. Travel
is a disadvantage, since one must travel halfway around the world and it is very costly.
