If you are looking for a stable adoption program, Nepal isn't a good program for you. The requirements and laws are changing quickly and there are domestic problems and civil unrest the country is dealing with.

Nepalese Children

Infants, toddlers, and older children are available. The children are in orphanages where the health is generally good. Many older children ( 2 years and older) need parents.

Note: The requirements and process below is combined with US laws, but it should be a basis for citizens of other countries.

Requirements

Married couples and singles can adopt. Parents must be at least 30. Singles must be at least 35. The maximum age difference is 45 years. The Nepalese child must be the youngest child in the family. Only married, infertile couples married for at least 4 years may adopt. Families with a boy and a girl can't adopt, but a family with a child of one gender must adopt a child of the opposite gender. However, these requirements change quickly.

Process

Only one trip to Nepal is required. The trip is about 7 to 10 days. The process is only 6 to 12 weeks for an older child.

Major Reasons Nepalese Children are being put up for Adoption

Advantages

Disadvantages

Travel is a disadvantage, since one must travel halfway around the world and it is very costly. This program is also unstable, the country is on the verge of a civil war, and the adoption laws can easily be changed.
