Pakistani Children

Children must be under 16.

Note: The requirements and process below is combined with US laws, but it should be a basis for citizens of other countries.

Requirements

For the US, only one parent must be an American citizen. There is no age requirement on Pakistan's part, but the US requires parents to be over 25.

Process

If you are not adopting a relative, they recommend working with a lawyer and the US BCIS (Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services). A lawyer or BCIS will help find a child considered an orphan by both govts.

Other Information / Pakistan

The capital of Pakistan is Islamabad, with Karachi, Hyderabad, and Lahore as some major cities.

Major Reasons Pakistani Children are being put up for Adoption

Advantages

Disadvantages

The US State Dep. classifies Pakistan as "not an easy country from which to adopt a child". It isn't very common, so there aren't many resources available. Travel is a disadvantage since one must travel halfway around the world and it is very costly.

The State Dep recommends researching all facilitators. I have listed one website of a Pakistani adoption facilitator. Please keep in mind that you may work with the ones listed above, which the State Dep listed on their page or the BCIS. The Bureau will act as a facilitator, so you do not even need to use these lawyers. The BCIS' website is www.immigration.gov. (BCIS recently changed from the INS after it became a bureau under the new Dep. of Homeland Security.)
