Uzbek Children

The child you are seeking to adopt must be considered an orphan by both the Uzbek and US governments.

Note: The requirements and process below is combined with US laws, but it should be a basis for citizens of other countries.

Requirements

The minumum age is 25. Singles and married couples may adopt. The age difference between parent and child must be at least 15 years. At least one parent needs to be an American citizen (by birth or through naturalization). Both parents (with couples) need to agree to the adoption. A parent who has been legally divorced may adopt. Parents already with children may adopt.

Process

The only "adoption agency" that is allowed to facilitate adoptions is the Guardianship and Trusteeship Organ of the Uzbek government. You must work directly with both governments and have no third party (adoption agency / facilitator). The Uzbek govt. will provide you with a photolisting. You must know the exact definations of an orphan by both govts. Travel is necessary. Parents must not have contagious diseases / conditions.

Documents Needed

A document with your full name, residence, marriage date, if you are living together with your spouse or are separated, if you have any children, the age of the children, and the full name, age, and gender of the child they are planning to adopt. Identification of the parents, a copy of a marriage certificate, divorce decree (if applies), residence certificate with the number of people living in your home, letter from your employer stating your salary, another letter recommending you and describing your personality from your employer or family member, and a medical report stating parents don't have contagious diseases, are healthy, and aren't suffering from substance abuse or alcohol, are all required as well. Documents must be translated into Uzbek or Russian by an official translator and must be approved by the Uzbek or Russian foreign mission. The Uzbekistan Mission in the U.S or the U.S. Embassy in Tashkent will certify the documents issued in the US. Once the State Dep's Certification Division has certified the documants as well, the Uzbekistan consular section will authenticate it.

Major Reasons Uzbek Children are being put up for Adoption

Advantages

Disadvantages

Please note that adoption from Uzbekistan is rare. Only two children were adopted in 2000 from Uzbekistan. There aren't any support groups, and other post-adoption advantages because of its rarity.
