Kenyan Children
Infants until age 16 are available.
Note: The requirements and process below is combined with US laws, but it should be a basis
for citizens of other countries.
Requirements
Single males and parents of a different race than the child are not allowed to adopt, however this rule is liberal. Parents
must be at least 25 and have at least a 21 year age difference with the child.
Process
A lawyer familiar with Kenyan law should be appointed (but there aren't many specializing in adoption). Adoption agencies
may also place children. After a child is placed with adoptive parents, the parents visit the child at least once a month.
An adoption agency representative will make a report on the visit to the guardian, unless the guardian is there. The court-appointed
guardian of the child writes a complete report, which is submitted to court, along with a copy of the child's birth certificate.
Parents and the child must attend a court hearing and a certified copy of the adoption order is made. Then the child can apply
for a Kenyan passport to the US and can leave for the US.
