In 2002, 37 Jamaican children were adopted into Canada. Jamaica was the 12th most popular adoptive country in Canada in 2002.

Jamaican Children

Infants until age 18 are available. The children are of African descent. There are more boys than girls.


Note: The requirements and process below is combined with US laws, but it should be a basis for citizens of other countries.


Requirements

Parents must travel to Jamaica. With married couples, at least one parent must be a US citizen and at least 18. There is no upper age. Singles may also adopt.

Process

Adoption applications by the parents must be to the Jamaican Adoption Board.

Documents Needed

A completed adoption application as given by the Adoption Board, an interview, and medical exam are necessary.
