Brazilian Children
The children available are between 1 - 12 years old. Most are 3 and older. The children are usually of mixed race. Children
must be under 16, or under 18 if they have a sibling that is under 16 and being adopted by the same parents.
Note: The requirements and process below is combined with US laws, but it should be a basis
for citizens of other countries.
Requirements
Married couples and single females can adopt. Parents must be at least 21 years old and have at least a 16 year age difference
from the child. Under US law, parents must be at least 25. Brazilian citizens have priority.
Process
A child is assigned to you (according to the description you want), two months after the paperwork arrives in Brazil. You
receive a photo and medical information. The trip is between 2 and 4 weeks, depending on the age of the child. One parent
may leave after 10 days. Some children are available from Christian missionary homes, where parents must be evangelical Christians.
Judges require parents to live in Brazil with their child for at least 15 days (if the child id under 2), and at least 30
days (for children older than 2).
Documents Needed
Like with other adoption countries, a home study is needed to complete an adoption. The documents must be translated in English
and Portuguese by a sworn public translator.
