Mexican Children
Siblings are available. Newborns until age 16 are available. In some states, only children 4 and older are available. In others,
the majority of the children are newborn. In those states, the birthmother plans the adoption while she is still pregnant.
Most older children are avilable from orphanages. Some programs test the birthmothers for medical conditions, information
about the birthmother is available, and adoptive parents may meet with her as well. Agencies may hire attorneys and adoptive
families are able to communicate with her after adoption. It usually takes longer to adopt a girl, because there are fewer
girls and their birth rate is lower than that of boys. Sibling groups are available. Hispanic and children of native descent
are available. Couples should be married for more than two years.
Note: The requirements and process below is combined with US laws, but it should be a basis
for citizens of other countries.
Requirements
Please note that the requirements and the age of the children available vary from state to state (Mexican states). Parents
must be at least 25 (US requirement) and singles can be male or female. Parents must at least 17 years older than the child.
With couples, only one parent needs to meet this age requirement. If the child is over 14, he/she must agree to the adoption.
It is best the parents be under 60 years old. Spouses must agree to the adoption and at least one needs to be US citizen.
Parents must have good physical and mental health with no contagious diseases.
Process
There can be one trip to Mexico, or 2 or 3. It is best that both mother and father would travel. In some programs, parents
are able to choose if they would like to adopt a boy or girl. All parents need to stay at least 6 months in Mexico to bond
with their child. The judge may decide the exact time frame. Be prepared to be at least 10 working days in Mexico.
Documents Needed
All documents should be translated into Spanish. They must be authenticated by your state and by the Mexican consulate.
Weather / Climate
Mexico is considered tropical and moderate climate. The climate is dependent upon altitude, wind, and Pacific Ocean currents.
The coast of the Yucatan Peninsula and leveled areas of southern Mexico are the most tropical. The climate is more moderate
in higher altitudes. Most of Mexico is dry with little rainfall. The country experiences hurricanes in the summer and fall.
Mexico City is usually 43-66 F (6-19C) in January, and 54-79F (12-26C) in May. There is a hurricane threat during the summer
months for Mexico.
