Most Americans, instead of adopting internationally, adopt from the US. There are two kinds of domestic adoptions; open and
closed adoption. Open adoption is when the child knows his/her birthmother throughout his/her childhood, but is raised by
the adoptive parents. Closed is when he/she doesn't. Closed adoption is better for those adoptive parents who will be feel
uncomfortable with the birthmother around. These children can be found in foster homes, or the adoption is organized while
the birthmother is pregnant. Birthmothers usually choose the parents. If you are worried about language barriers and traveling
on planes or abroad, domestic adoption may be right for you. Most domestic adoption agencies work locally and there are photolistings
of the children (usually older children).
