If you don't see what you're looking for, try a search with the search box. Underlined titles are linked directly to amazon.com. I also have an Airlines and Airliners Book Store that covers a wider range of subjects than listed here, including histories, pictorials, and airline management titles. Also, my Rolls-Royce and Bentley Book Store covers both older and new models, including the Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn and Bentley Mark VI, Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud and Bentley S series, Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow and Silver Wraith, Bentley T series, Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit and Silver Spur, Bentley 8 and Mulsanne, Rolls-Royce Corniche, Camargue, Silver Seraph, Bentley Arnage, Continental, Flying Spur, and the new Rolls-Royce Phantom.

Introduction

The site is divided into eleven major sections. The first, contains a compilation of reference works which deal exclusively or in part with air carrier safety. Librarians and researchers alike should find this chapter useful.

The second section contains periodicals and lists some well-known industry periodicals and some lesser-known journals in the field. Unhappily, some of the better periodicals are out of print, but are nevertheless listed because they can still be found in some libraries.

Sections three through eleven comprise monographic works and they contain many lesser-known and older items as well as recent publications. Most of the annotations are descriptive, but a few are critical when warranted. Most of the annotations of books that contain substantive discussions of multiple airline occurrences contain listings of the crashes discussed in the order presented in the volume.

Lastly, an airline/aircraft type and author/title index is included for convenience. The index lists entries alphabetically by airline, aircraft type, author, editor, corporate author, and title of each document in the bibliography.

For a wider coverage of all air transportation subjects, I recommend the print version of Dr. Sterling's Commercial Air Transport Books: An Annotated Bibliography of Airlines, Airliners, and the Air Transport Industry.

To proceed through the pages sequentially, click on the navigation button near the bottom of each page. Otherwise, use the Table of Contents or Index to find the subject or item of specific interest.

The tables below list many of the more noteworthy airline crashes that have occurred worldwide since 1982.

Table 1. NTSB List of US Air Carrier Fatal Accidents since 1982

Crewmembers and ground casualties are not listed in fatalities. Cargo and training accidents are excluded. Terrorist acts resulting in passenger fatalities are included. Current information is available online at: http://www.ntsb.gov/aviation/paxfatal.htm

Table 2. Selected World Air Carrier Jet Fatal Accidents since 1982

This list is not comprehensive and does not include the accidents involving US carriers already listed in Table 1. Cargo and training accidents are excluded. Both passengers and crewmembers are included; ground casualties are excluded. (compiled by Kenneth G. Madden)
