My first patent was granted for a media based copy protection scheme using a technique called "weak bits". Hardware and software was developed for the Macintosh in order to intentionally write certain bits on a disk as weak or bad. If this disk were later copied, the resultant copy would not have any of the bad bits that were on the original and this was then checked for in the software.
