COUNTDOWN TO A PERFECT WEDDING
Getting married involves so many aspects that you may be asking yourself, "Where do I begin?" We have put together a suggested time line to give you an idea of when certain things should be done and when the important hiring decisions need to be made. This is by no means a complete list, but it's still a good place to start. Some of the items like ceremony and reception site, along with your photography should be booked very early so that you get your choice on the day you have chosen for the wedding.
9 -12 Months Before the Wedding
  • Determine wedding date
  • Determine budget
  • Determine guest list
  • Book ceremony site
  • Book reception site
  • BOOK PHOTOGRAPHER
  • Select wedding party attendants
  • Order wedding dress/bridesmaids' dresses, schedule fitting appointments
  • Hire a wedding consultant/coordinator
  • Contact newspapers to announce your engagement
8 Months Before the Wedding
  • Book caterer
  • Book florist
  • Book DJ/Band
  • Book ceremony musicians
  • Book additional reception musicians
7 Months Before the Wedding
  • Book officiant
  • Book videographer
  • Hire travel or cruise line agent
  • Rent any necessary equipment for ceremony/reception
6 Months Before the Wedding
  • Order Wedding Rings
  • Book wedding night suite and honeymoon accommodations
  • Register for wedding gifts
  • Book guest accommodations
  • Begin health/fitness routine
5 Months Before the Wedding
  • Order invitations/thank-you notes/announcements/stationery
  • Book rehearsal dinner location
  • Order favors
  • Select grooms and ushers attire
4 Months Before the Wedding
  • Order cake/cake top
  • Book limousine/horse & carriage/transportation
  • Sign up for dance lessons
  • Order balloon decorations
3 Months Before the Wedding
  • Address invitations and announcements
  • Consult with banquet or catering manager regarding reception menu
  • Purchase wedding accessories, attendants' gifts
  • Schedule hair/makeup/spa treatments
  • Book vendor for dove release
  • Rent table linens, tableware, flatware
  • Mail invitations
2 Months Before the Wedding
  • Book Ice sculptor
  • Set date and time for rehearsal and rehearsal dinner
  • Finalize plans with photographer and videographer regarding desired shots
  • Complete paperwork for official documents (if you are changing your name)
1 Month Before the Wedding
  • Obtain marriage license
  • Send wedding announcement to local newspaper
  • Determine reception seating arrangements/write place cards
  • Schedule floral preservationist
1-2 Weeks Before the Wedding
  • Give caterer final head count
  • Pack for honeymoon
  • Confirm wedding night and honeymoon reservations
  • Confirm reservations for out-of-town guests
  • Create ceremony program
  • confirm plans with DJ regarding reception order of events, song list, first and last dance songs
  • Enlist the help of a friend or family member to gather gifts at end of reception for delivery to the proper location
  • Give schedule of ceremony/reception events to all vendors
  • Call Photographer to confirm times for all events and let use know if anything has changed since our last conversation
  • Pick up wedding dress and accessories
