My first Jeep....
A 1973 CJ-5 Renegade, something I've wanted since childhood. I found this Jeep in December "96", but in reality I was looking for an old Bronco....just don't tell anyone on the Jeep-list :-) ....I then found myself suddenly, and somewhat unexpectedly becoming a homeowner in April of "97". Plans to rebuild from the ground up suddenly became.....lets just keep it running.
At this point all I have done is supply the new top, a new battery and do a bit of electrical troubleshooting (like I really know what I'm doing), and picking up a couple odds and ends. It is pretty much a grocery getter for the time being....but that will change with time, and as budget allows. At least I have my own garage now.
My not-so-immediate plans include...
- designing a kayak rack that works with or without a top on the Jeep
- build or buy a jamboree rack
- frame mounted full roll cage
- lockable storage
- new suspension
- upgrade transmission
Once the home front gets squared away (someday), I'd really like to make an expedition to Alaska, so my plans for the time being tend to be towards extended travel and exploration....as opposed to hard core off roading.
