Plot Summary
Basil is a Victorian era romantic mystery based on Wilke
Collins' gothic suspense novel. Jared Leto plays
Basil, a wealthy young man in Victorian England. Basil falls in love with
Carla (Claire Forlani), a mysterious working-class woman. With the
help of his friend Bob Mannion (Christian
Slater), Basil secretly marries Carla, but their marriage falls
apart after Basil discovers a terrible secret in Carla's life. Basil's
stern father (Derek Jacobi) then disowns him and
throws him out into the streets of London. It is there that Basil
discovers that Bob is in the center of a dangerous plot of revenge against
Basil's family.
Claire's Role
Claire plays Carla, a myserious, sensuous woman from a working-class
family who is Basil's love interest.
