The Emergency Radio Service (ERS) is a two-way radio incident notification network that operates twenty-four hours a day with coverage throughout most of southern California. We currently have coverage in metropolitan LA, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and San Diego counties. The ERS holds meetings and field trips several times a year.
What can be heard on the ERS? Almost any type of major incident involving public safety can be heard on the ERS. These incidents range from Fires to major Traffic Accidents.
Who dispatches? Dispatches can be made by anyone with information that is of interest to all users of the ERS.
What kind of radio does one need? Each member will have to secure a mobile radio made by Kenwood (TK380 portables and TK880 mobiles). Only radios approved by the ERS will be accepted on the system.
What the ERS is not. The ERS is not a CB or a cheap cell phone! If you are looking for an incident notification system with the best coverage in Southern California, than the ERS may be what you've been searching for.
How do does one join? Just complete an application and send it to the ERS. [ Application ] The ERS will notify you if you meet all requirements for active or associate membership. If you are applying for active membership than you must also complete an oral interview conducted by the ERS.
